MCP connector

What a connector is in ChatGPT, Claude, Cursor and Grok, what the address it wants looks like, and why there is nothing to install.

A connector is how an AI client reaches a service that is not its own. The client speaks MCP — the Model Context Protocol — to a server somewhere, that server tells it which tools it has, and from then on the assistant can use them in an ordinary conversation. ChatGPT calls them connectors or apps, Claude calls them custom connectors, Cursor calls them MCP servers and Grok calls them connectors. They are the same thing under different names.

What the client wants from you

One address. Not a package, not a config file, not a command to run on your machine — this is a remote server over HTTP, and the whole of what a client needs is the URL.

https://makehybrid.com/mcp/<your key>

That one is the all-in-one agent: everything the account can do, in one connector. There is also one per area, for when you would rather the assistant had a smaller set of tools to choose from and got to the right one sooner.

Why there is no sign-in step

The key is already inside the address, so there is nothing to sign in to. When a client asks how to authenticate, the answer is the option that means none — No sign in, No authentication, None. Do not set up an OAuth client and do not add a request header.

That one question is where almost everybody gets stuck. A connector added with OAuth switched on will sit there asking to be authorised by a server that was never going to ask for it.

The flip side is that the address is the credential. Anyone who has it has the access it carries, so treat it the way you treat a key: do not paste it into a shared document, and if it gets out, revoke that key on the dashboard and mint another. Revoking is instant and takes every connector built on it down with it.

Questions people ask

Do I need to install anything?

No. There is a published MCP binary, but it asks for Node, a JSON config file and an environment variable, and a modern client does not need any of that — it takes the address and nothing else.

Can I add more than one?

Yes, and the same key serves all of them. Add the all-in-one if you want everything in one place, or two or three of the narrower ones if you would rather keep a client on its own subject.

Is this the same as an API key?

It is built from one. The address is the key with a path in front of it, which is why revoking the key is what takes the connector away.

Turn this into something that runs itself

Say what your business does and it becomes your own service and product in one: the work runs on its own, under your name, on your accounts and your AI key. The first 30 days are free, and nothing here needs an engineer.
